Change

Belatedly, congratulations to Barack Obama on his historic accomplishment. His message of hope and change struck a chord with so many voters.

America has so much potential, and Americans love to do new things and innovate, I'm constantly amazed. Like inventing new ways to make money (sub-prime mortgages, anyone?). Or, sometimes, doing very generous and good things, or simply neat and creative things.

So, I was not surprised to learn that individual Americans are contributing to space exploration by building and launching their own high-powered rockets with space-range capabilities. Greg sent me a link to a video about these enthusiastic rocket launchers. The fellow is really serious, as he says: "Model rockets are kind of fun to do with your kid, but as an adult, you need a little more oomph and excitement to things."

Okay, that's more of a big and impractical thing, but you have to admire the ingenuity.

Meanwhile in Canada, our innovators might not always grab as much attention as others, but we have our creative ones too. For example, visit Edmond Segbeaya's Hot Sauce company: www.awassi.net. He started his venture after immigrating as a refugee (originally from Togo). His condiment probably tastes different than any other hot sauce, and it's a neat business idea. I think I'll order some.
